Troy Reeves and son, Bryson, had the honor of hosting an evening with Magda Herzberger – one of the last remaining Holocaust survivors. Ms. Herzerger was in three of the concentration camps during her teen years. She told of the horrible events she saw and her life story. Troy and Bryson escorted Ms. Herzberger from her Fountain Hills home to a speaking engagement in Gilbert.
Upon arrival to the Herzberger home, Ms. Herzberger invited them to stay awhile and meet her husband, retired neurosurgeon Dr. Eugene Herzberger (another amazing story). During their time together, she shared with the Reeves many personal stories recanting her experiences, as well as her friendship with the legendary Ann Frank. “She is an incredible woman!” says Troy. “It is amazing what she went through!!” shares Bryson.
Ms. Herzberger has written several books and poems sharing her stories with world. On this particular evening, her story was shared with over 200 people – all sitting, listening, barely breathing as they experienced the horrors of the Holocaust.
The Waltz of the Shadows (Second Edition) By Magda Herzberger
into the pools of years
For those I loved and lost
And like a haunting ghost
My spirit roams around
Searching for their unknown
Burial ground —
They were the victims
Of their faith,
Sentenced to death
Without a sin,
For worshiping
The only God
They believed in —
They died without protest,
With no rebellion,
Together with the rest
Of six million
Innocent Jews
In the Nazi camps
Of Germany —
O, Lord, please help me
to keep alive their memory —
They died in vain,
I witnessed their agony
and pain,
I heard their cries,
O, Lord, our God
Open for them
The gates of Paradise —
Let their souls
Rest in peace — —
Forgive mankind’s atrocities — —
